Génération 2000 #3, 2023

Caro Graffiti   Emerging artists

In this canvas from the triptych "Generation 2000" by CARO GRAFFITI, the artist captures the essence of contemporary youth through a scene that is both playful and symbolic. In the foreground is a young girl, representative of the generation born at the turn of the millennium, who sports a balloon of popping gum in her mouth. This chewing gum, with its bright color and elastic texture, evokes the carefree and playful characteristics of childhood, as well as the attachment to pop culture symbols.

The young girl looks at the world around her with amazed eyes, while continuing to chew her gum. This captivating image embodies the idea that today's youth juggle innocence and the reality of the world around them. Like the three wise monkeys, who cover their eyes, ears and mouth, this painting reminds us that sometimes it is necessary to take a step back to better understand the world around us.

The juxtaposition of the balloon of gum in the girl's mouth with her curious expression suggests that despite the distractions and pleasures of modern life, youth still keeps a keen eye on the events unfolding around them. “Generation 2000” invites us to reflect on how today's youth interpret and respond to the complexities of the contemporary world while maintaining their own brilliance and optimism.

Thus, this painting invites us to meditate on the notion of innocence, curiosity and perception of today's youth, while reminding us that, like the three monkeys of wisdom, it is sometimes necessary to see, hear and speak wisely to better understand the world around us, even as we enjoy life's little pleasures like popping gum.
