Description
This abstract composition plays on a striking contrast. A dark, almost abyssal background envelops a central organic form. Acid yellow dominates the heart of the piece. Fine, nervous lines structure this element, evoking a membrane or a biological structure.
The work in acrylic and chalk on paper brings a grainy texture. This technique creates an effect of atmospheric depth. Geometric and filamentous lines traverse the space, like rays or invisible tensions.
In the bottom left, a pale, circular form responds to the central mass. It seems to float in an ethereal void. The balance between the areas of shadow and the flashes of light guides the eye.
The whole conveys an impression of scientific mystery. One perceives the influence of technical rigor combined with plastic freedom. The signature and the date, 197, appear precisely in the bottom right corner.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
