Snow haze, 2011

Anatoly Kost

"Snow Haze" is an exploration of the ephemeral nature of winter's atmosphere—where snowfall blurs the boundaries between sky and earth, turning the landscape into an abstract veil of movement and light. The artist captures this fleeting moment with layered brushstrokes, creating an interplay of black, earthy ochres, and icy blues that suggest both structure and dissolution. The composition is filled with energy, as if the storm is in motion, revealing glimpses of form beneath the haze.

Anatoly Kost's abstract approach transforms the cold and quiet of winter into a dynamic, almost musical experience. The crisscrossing dark lines act as architectural elements within the misty surroundings, evoking the skeletal remains of trees, frozen rivers, or distant horizons lost in snowfall. Through bold yet controlled strokes, Kost invites the viewer to sense the contrast between the weight of winter's silence and the hidden tension of movement beneath it.

Concept

Created in 2012 in Anatoly Kost's Volyn workshop, Snow Haze is part of the artist's renowned winter series, which delves into the emotional and sensory qualities of seasonal landscapes through abstraction. This painting has been showcased in several exhibitions, solidifying its place in Kost's legacy of contemporary expressionism.

A master of "contemp-abstraction," Anatoly Kost fuses the principles of abstract expressionism with philosophical inquiry. His works, influenced by natural phenomena and human perception, embody a deep emotional resonance. He describes his method as ArtHouse abstraction—a form of visual storytelling where movement, color, and form evoke memory and sensation rather than literal representation.

A striking addition to any contemporary art collection, Snow Haze offers a timeless meditation on nature's fleeting moments, making it a captivating piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
