Space of contradictions, 2011

Anatoly Kost

"Space of Contradictions" is a dynamic exploration of tension and duality—between chaos and structure, movement and stillness, expression and control. Anatoly Kost employs bold black arcs and intersecting lines to create a complex, web-like composition that seems to both expand and contract, pulling the viewer into its depths.

The earthy ochres and deep reds contrast against cooler whites and blues, reinforcing the painting's conceptual paradox—warmth meets cold, order emerges from disarray. The gestural brushstrokes and layered textures suggest a constant negotiation between opposing forces, much like the contradictions inherent in human existence: reason versus instinct, past versus future, destruction versus creation.

Concept

Painted in 2011 in Anatoly Kost's Volyn workshop, Space of Contradictions reflects the artist's ongoing fascination with the nature of transformation and instability. This work has been featured in major exhibitions and is part of Kost's broader abstract series that delves into movement, spatial tension, and philosophical inquiry.

Kost is recognized as a leading figure in "contemp-abstraction," a style that merges expressive abstraction with deep conceptual undertones. His approach, known as ArtHouse abstraction, emphasizes emotional resonance through dynamic compositions that challenge the viewer's perception of space and form.

A compelling addition to any modern art collection, Space of Contradictions captures the raw energy of shifting realities, making it an essential piece for collectors who appreciate thought-provoking and visually striking works.
