Description
In 2,000 years of French history, there have been many Mays, but May '68 is most remembered. The atmosphere was revolutionary, and anything seemed possible. Events centered around the Sorbonne, whose chapel dome can be seen in the background. A sea of cobblestones covers the entire Latin Quarter. Inspired by surrealism, the figure—half-model, half-woman—holds a red cobblestone in her hand, reminiscent of a piece of meat. Her pants are printed with FranSoisT's familiar animals: horses, cats, rabbits, etc. In the distance, the gutter transforms into a republican flag, almost a guillotine that cuts off the cobblestone thrower's left wrist. In this scene, everything seems calm, deserted, uninhabited... as if Paris had emptied, as if May '68 had never existed.
Presentation
Born in 1952, FranSoisT paints and photographs. François Thiéry-Mourelet (for the civil status) signs his paintings "Fransoist" or "FsT". His works combine elegant women, powerful nature, dreams (or nightmares), cats, horses and gentle monsters. If the technique is classical (use of sfumato, verdaccio and glazing), the compositions are complex. The brushstroke, quick and oblique, superimposes natural or burnt earths (ochres, greens, browns, reds...) and blues. He also has a work as a watercolorist, illustrator of children's books and photographer. Since 1984, he has exhibited in Modena, Geneva, Cleveland, Thonon-les-Bains, Paray-le-Monial, Cachan, Saint-Ouen, Arcueil, Barbizon, Paris...
