Description
“Pink is only for f*ggots” is part of my series dedicated to masculine identity. With this deliberately provocative title, I poke fun at the outdated idea that certain colors—especially pink—are somehow “forbidden” to men under the threat of losing their virility. As if simply wearing pink could magically turn a man into a “f*ggot”...
This absurd fear among masculinists actually exposes the fragility of a rigid conception of masculinity. Pink itself never asked for any of this—it’s a vibrant, powerful, and beautiful color. Gay men would be absolutely right to claim it for themselves!
In this work, I wanted the energy of the colors to speak for itself. Created with oil pastels and oil paint on paper (21 x 14.8 cm), it stands out through its bold impasto and radiant palette, where pink converses with vivid tones to give life to a masculine portrait caught between contradictions, clichés, and the freedoms of an evolving identity.
Presentation
Born in 1986 in La Louvière (Belgium), G. Carta now lives and creates in Le Havre, Normandy. At the age of 16, she gave herself her first brushes and acrylic paints, sparking a deep passion for portraits and the human body. Over time, she refines her technique, swapping acrylics for the richness of oil painting.
In 2019, she made a decisive choice: leaving her job as a sales agent to fully dedicate herself to her artistic vocation. Since then, her works have traveled across Europe and the United States, reaching collectors who resonate with her unique world.
In 2023, her encounter with oil pastels was a true revelation. This medium became a playground where texture brings emotions to life. Through curved forms, she expresses both sensuality and pain, weaving an intimate dialogue between color and feeling. Flesh tones transform into shades of orange or blue, reinventing existence through unexpected contrasts.
Her art is a quest for identity, deep values, deconstruction, and reconstruction. Each piece invites vulnerability, offering a dive into her raw and sincere reality
