There are things you carry for so long that you forget they have weight.
Not because they are small. But because there was never anyone to put them down with. No hand extended in the right moment. No room quiet enough, no person safe enough, no conversation that went deep enough to reach the place where the real things live. And so you learned — slowly, without choosing it — to be your own witness. Your own keeper. Your own confessor.
"My Own Confessor" was painted from that place.
Two women, and they are one. Both dark-haired, both wide-eyed, both looking outward with a gaze that has seen too much and said too little of it aloud. They lean into each other the way you lean into yourself at 3am — not for comfort exactly, but because there is simply nowhere else to go. One rests her hand against her own face, the oldest gesture of someone thinking thoughts they will never speak out loud. The other holds steady, present, watching. Together they form the complete architecture of a person who has learned to be an entire conversation by herself.
This is what it means to be the only one in a family who feels the world this way. Not dramatic. Not chosen. Just — true. The pressure of a society that does not pause, does not ask, does not make space. The particular silence of being surrounded by people and still having nowhere to pour what is inside you. So it goes somewhere else. Into the canvas. Into the colors that have no polite indoor voice — electric magenta, burning yellow, the raw navy of a tag that says I was here, I felt this, it was real.
Art became the confession booth. The inner self became the priest. And somewhere in that strange, solitary sacrament — something like peace became possible.
Not the peace of being understood by others. The harder, quieter, more permanent peace of understanding yourself.
This painting is for everyone who has ever been the only one in the room — in the family, in the relationship, in the life — who needed something that no one around them knew how to give. Who found a way to give it to themselves instead. And who knows that this is not weakness. This is the most exhausting, most invisible, most extraordinary form of strength there is.
