Description
This composition plays on the balance between the rigor of the line and the freedom of the gesture. The artist uses ink and collage to build a space where color becomes the main subject. Blue and yellow confront and merge in a game of subtle superimpositions.
The influence of engraving is felt in the precision of the planes. Each area is thought of as a note taken live, then reworked in the studio. Nature is not represented but suggested. It survives through luminous nuances and simplified geometric shapes.
The paper here welcomes layers of pigments that create visual depth. The eye circulates between blocks of saturated colors and more vaporous passages. The hybrid technique allows for the combination of the fluidity of ink with the materiality of collage. This work is part of a research into abstraction where the memory of the landscape guides the hand. The final rendering is characterized by solar luminosity and structuring vertical lines.
Presentation
After a first training cycle at the École des Beaux-Arts of Pau (64), I specialized in engraving under the direction of Jean-Marie Granier at the National School of Fine Arts of Paris. I diversified my artistic practice notably by working with ink which has become central today in my work with drawing as a basis.
From engraving to burin, I maintain a taste for meticulous work, and paper as a support. Nature is a subject of observation but also of dream, I do not seek to make it naturalistic; I observe the landscape for a long time, I let it infuse me, I draw quickly like taking notes then returning to the studio, often several months later the ink emerges. Sometimes it comes just from the color, but for me this color always stems from what I have been able to observe and carry within me, it is as concrete as a drawing of a tree and it is important to me that it carries emotion.
