Description
This minimalist composition draws out the tension between light and shadow.
A bright red frame defines the picture field. It cuts through a deep, nocturnal background. The geometry is precise. The lines are clear. This strict structure creates a powerful focal point.
The center remains a mysterious void. It draws the gaze to itself. The contrast between the rich purple-red and the dark edge area creates a subtle vibration.
This interplay evokes a feeling of architectural depth. It transforms a flat surface into a meditative space.
The application of color is seamless. No brushstrokes are visible. This technical precision allows the hand of the creator to recede, giving precedence to the pure form.
The artwork functions as a study of balance and restraint. It invites a contemplative experience.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
