Description
This composition examines the tension between structure and emptiness.
A strict grid defines the space. Gold lines divide the canvas into precise rectangles. These edges act as luminous channels. They lead the eye through a rhythmic sequence of depths.
The color palette remains sober and earthy. Deep brown tones and obsidian-like black create a feeling of architectural weight. Each segment possesses a unique density. Some areas appear like massive walls. Others allow infinite shadows to be perceived. This contrast creates a subtle vibration across the entire surface.
The execution is flawless. Flat areas of color meet each other with surgical precision. No brushstrokes are visible.
This anonymity underscores the geometric logic of the work.
The artwork creates a balance between the warmth of ochre and the coolness of dark voids. It evokes the feeling of a modernist map or a quiet city plan.
The final impression is that of meditative stability.
The viewer is invited to reflect on the harmony of proportions and the silence of the dark fields.
The work can be hung directly.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
