Description
This plunging view of Paris captures the urban effervescence with graphic precision. The aerial viewpoint places the Arc de Triomphe at the center of a radial composition. The avenues stretch out like natural extensions toward the horizon.
The line is fine, almost architectural. The touches of green bring an organic breath to the midst of the mineral gray of the stone. The diffuse light homogenizes the space and highlights the rigorous geometry of the Place Charles-de-Gaulle.
The artist plays with perspective to create a sensation of aspiration. The viewer surveys the capital and observes the constant flow of the city. The technical rendering prioritizes clarity and the balance of masses.
This creation is presented in a dark and sober setting. This finish emphasizes the rigor of the drawing while highlighting the soft color palette. The whole rests on a visual harmony between nature and urbanism. The support used allows for a remarkable finesse of detail in the tracing of the surrounding facades.
Presentation
Liao is known for his ability to merge the rigorous and mathematical discipline of architecture with a soft and human emotion. His characteristic style is clearly visible in this work:
extremely fine ink lines that capture with surgical precision the immense complexity of the city and the intense traffic around the Arc de Triomphe. Subtle washes in watercolor lend the work a dreamlike, almost nostalgic atmosphere. The transition between the detailed foreground and the more abstract and light lines of the background creates a remarkable effect of depth. Liao captures the pulse of the city here; from this elevated viewpoint, the chaos of traffic becomes an organized dance, a central theme in his exploration of human patterns.
About the artist:
Miguel Liao, born in Barcelona in 1986, is internationally acclaimed for his multidisciplinary approach. His work is collected by connoisseurs who appreciate the balance between classical drawing techniques and a modern, almost visionary, view of our urban environment. This work in particular is a magnificent example of his early interest in urban structures, before he turned to large-scale digital installations.
