Description

Lines Through Stone is an original contemporary abstract painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Measuring 120 × 90 cm, this large acrylic work combines architectural structure with richly layered, weathered surfaces in a sophisticated palette of warm neutrals, grey, charcoal, and deep brown.

While creating this painting, I was thinking about surfaces that carry traces of time—weathered stone, old walls, fragments of architecture, and places where one layer gradually reveals another. I wanted to capture the feeling of discovering something beneath the surface rather than depicting a particular place or structure.

The composition develops around intersecting vertical and horizontal forms, creating a geometric framework that is deliberately imperfect. Around it, fragmented planes, irregular edges, and spontaneous marks soften the geometry and introduce a sense of movement and transformation.

The palette combines warm beige, ivory, cream, taupe, greige, stone grey, soft white, muted blue-grey, charcoal, espresso brown, and black. Subtle transitions between warm and cool neutral shades give the painting depth while maintaining its restrained, atmospheric character.

I developed the surface with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping, and gestural line work. Layers were repeatedly applied and partially removed, allowing earlier colors and marks to remain visible. This process creates a tactile surface reminiscent of naturally aged stone and architectural materials.

Moving between geometric abstraction, architectural abstraction, and contemporary textured painting, is intentionally open to interpretation. Its lines may suggest fragments of an architectural drawing, divisions in a wall, traces of construction, or simply the visual memory accumulated by a surface over time.

For me, the painting is about the beauty of imperfection and transformation—how marks, erosion, and partially erased layers can become a record of what has existed before.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind original artwork, signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
