After the Rain Clears, 2026

After the Rain Clears is an original contemporary abstract landscape painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Measuring 120 × 85 cm, this acrylic painting on canvas combines atmospheric neutral tones with deep emerald and forest greens, exploring the transformation of a landscape as light begins to return after rain.

When I created this painting, I was thinking about the particular atmosphere that remains after a storm. The sky is still heavy, water continues to reflect the changing clouds, and the colors of the landscape seem unusually deep and intense. Then a passage of light appears, gradually changing everything around it.

I wanted to capture this transition rather than depict a specific place.

The upper part of the composition is built from layers of ivory, warm beige, taupe, soft grey, blue-grey, pale blue, and muted sage. Across the center, luminous passages of white, pearl grey, and cool grey-blue suggest reflected light moving across water and create a sense of distance.

Toward the lower part of the painting, the palette becomes richer and more dramatic. Emerald green, forest green, muted teal, charcoal, blue-black, deep brown, and earthy umber create depth, while accents of ochre, rust, and burnt orange introduce warmth and contrast.

I developed the surface through repeated layers of professional acrylic paint using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, dripping, and expressive gestural marks. Some areas are dense and highly textured, while others remain softer and more translucent, revealing traces of earlier layers beneath the final surface.

Although the composition evokes water, shoreline, reflections, distant land, and a changing sky, it remains intentionally abstract. I prefer not to define the location, allowing each viewer to discover their own landscape within the painting—a coastline after rain, a lake beneath dramatic clouds, or simply a remembered encounter with nature.

For me, is about a quiet moment of transformation. The traces of turbulent weather are still present, but the first light has already begun to change the landscape.

The work moves between abstract landscape, contemporary seascape, atmospheric abstraction, and expressive painting, combining a strong sense of depth with richly layered surfaces.
