Description
A stripped-down composition divides the surface into two distinct zones.
The upper part presents an earthy and grainy texture. Its ocher and brown tones evoke the raw material of the soil. The boundary between the two blocks draws an irregular and organic line.
The lower part asserts itself with a deep and saturated red. Fine vertical streaks cross this dark area. These streaks suggest a slow, almost liquid movement. The contrast between the roughness of the top and the fluidity of the bottom creates an immediate visual tension.
The balance rests on the opposition of textures and colored masses. The tactile aspect of the paint reinforces the physical presence of the whole. The eye glides from a mineral zone to a dense chromatic background. The final rendering emphasizes a search for matter and gravity.
The work is created using a mixed technique combining notably oil, ash, resin, and pigments.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
