Description
An abstract composition plays on the duality of textures here. The eye first falls on an upper dense area. The material there is worked with relief, creating a grainy surface of a deep red.
An irregular horizontal line crosses the center. It acts as a mineral border, almost rocky. This break structures the space and guides the visual reading.
The lower part responds with a strict vertical rhythm. Streams of paint flow with precision. These fine lines contrast with the massive aspect of the top of the painting.
The chromatic play remains focused on shades of purple and wine-dark. Touches of dull gray come to nuance the whole to bring depth.
The technical execution emphasizes meticulous work on superposition. The light catches the asperities of the canvas, revealing subtle variations in tones.
The balance between the chaos of the material and the rigor of the lines creates a controlled visual tension. The final rendering evokes an imaginary geological landscape where sediments and flows intermingle.
The work is made using a mixed technique combining, in particular, oil, ash, resin, and pigments.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
