Description
A raw tension is established between two worlds. The composition divides into two distinct zones. At the bottom, a dense and tormented material asserts itself. Deep red dominates, almost organic. The reliefs are marked. The paint accumulates in thick layers, creating a tactile and rugged landscape. This chromatic block evokes earth or rock.
Above, calm returns. An off-white, neutral and luminous, occupies the upper half. The transition is abrupt. This contrast emphasizes the duality between chaos and serenity.
The surface plays with light, revealing subtle cracks and asperities. The whole invites intuitive reading. The gaze oscillates between the heaviness of the base and the lightness of the top.
The work on the material transforms the canvas into an almost sculptural object. Each relief captures the shadow and accentuates the depth of the composition. The final rendering presents a rich and mineral texture.
The work is executed using a mixed technique on canvas, combining pigments, ashes, resins, crushed papers, and acrylic paint.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
