Description
An abstract composition where contrast dominates. The canvas is divided into two distinct zones. At the top, a thick, grainy material extends in shades of gray and white. The relief is marked, creating a rocky, almost mineral aspect. This surface evokes a frozen landscape or a natural wall.
At the bottom, a deep black anchors the composition. The transition between the two blocks is irregular, drawing an organic boundary.
The balance rests on the opposition of masses. The light seems captured in the reliefs of the upper part, while the bottom absorbs all clarity. The play of textures brings tactile depth to the whole. The raw material and the variations in surface reinforce the presence of the work.
This piece plays on the duality between shadow and light. The visual rendering recalls the force of natural elements. The dense application of material and the superposition of textures give the composition a sculptural aspect.
The work is created using a mixed technique on canvas, combining pigments, ashes, resins, shredded papers, and acrylic paint.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
