Description
This abstract composition plays on a marked contrast between two distinct areas.
The upper part imposes a strong material presence. The paint accumulates there in thick and turbulent layers. These impasto create a dense relief, evoking arid earth or sedimentary rock. Brown and ochre tones dominate, bringing an organic warmth to the whole.
Below, the eye glides over a smoother, vertical surface. Fine and regular lines descend to the bottom of the frame. This area uses shades of gray and beige, recalling the structure of a forest seen from a distance or natural runoffs.
The balance rests on this tension between the textured mass of the top and the graphic fluidity of the bottom. The work on material transforms the canvas into a tactile object. The light catches the peaks of the paint, revealing yellow and earthy tones. The whole exudes an impression of stability and mineral depth.
The realization calls upon a mixed technique combining oil, paper, collage, and pigments. Earth, also mentioned among the materials, is part of this exploration around matter and natural textures.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
