Description
Migration II, from which Jour 7 comes, is a very beautiful series undertaken by Patrice Palacio in 2019. Every day, the artist has placed himself in the same place, adopted the same point of view to paint the Mediterranean, sometimes with oil , sometimes unleashed. In black and white, Palacio gives us all the luminosity of the south of France and the suave character of the oil, the only medium used by the artist, further accentuates the reflections.
The navy is a very classic subject in the history of art. Here, the painter completely updates this theme by giving it a cultural and political dimension through the chosen title. A vibrant picture of topicality through the prism of the universality of the model.

Lives in the south of France. "My work develops in the form of series essentially articulated around two constants: - The achromy of black and white. - The deconstruction of the pictorial surface. The exclusive use of black and white is induced by a research initiated for more than 10 years on tonality and luminance, directness and the essence of the phenomenon. The deconstruction of the surface, for its part, engages the viewer in a figuration / abstraction duality which quickly finds itself useless to apprehend the work and questions, from then on, the relationship to the Real and to its representation. This "permanent round trip from the detail to the whole" makes it possible to find "the place of the gaze" which teaches about one's own perception. "

Presentation

Patrice Palacio is a French painter and designer born in 1977.

His work has been developing for 20 years in the form of series essentially articulated around two constants:

- The exclusive use of black and white.

- The deconstruction of pictorial perception.

Patrice Palacio develops his research in the form of series.

The subject is with him a pretext to probe the fundamental issues of Painting.

“What do we see when we look? "," Where is the gaze located? "," How to write what is not? "

Plastically, his practice focuses on luminance, the delayed, the painting object, the void.

Faced with his paintings, the viewer quickly finds himself in a figuration / abstraction duality, useless to apprehend the work, and therefore questions the relationship to the Real and to its representation.

The artist uses a precise coding-decoding protocol that he assimilates to writing.

The recomposed signs take on meaning and become an image.

Patrice Palacio speaks of a “permanent round trip from the detail to the whole, the only condition for finding the place of the gaze that teaches about one's own perception of the world".

Finally, his position as an artist in his time wants to be shifted since he declares: "It is not so much my art that is contemporary as its spectators."
