Silent sail, 2025

Natalya Mougenot   Best sellers

This contemporary fine art photograph, capturing a moment of serene coastal silence, was taken by French artist and painter Natalya Mougenot in August 2025 on the southern shores of France. It is part of her ongoing series celebrating the quiet beauty found in life's simplest moments.

In Natalya's own words, the image was born from a tranquil morning, “when the sun was just beginning to rise on the horizon. What drew my gaze was the golden glow that danced across the water—this path of light stretching gently over sea and sand."

She continues, “There was a stillness in the horizon that felt eternal, broken only by the distant movement of a small boat sailing toward the Pyrenees. As I watched it drift farther, I imagined the people aboard, savoring the hush of the morning just as I was."

This photograph, she reflects, is a meditation on presence: “For me, this image speaks of peace, of quiet anticipation… It's about letting go of the chaos of everyday life and simply being—in stillness, in light, in the now."

Natalya invites viewers to join her in this moment of reflection: “I believe that anyone who stands before this scene, watching the gentle motion of the waves, might find themselves wrapped in a calm, contemplative silence."

“I hope," she concludes, “that the visual experience I lived that morning can be felt by others too—to sense the natural beauty and timeless allure of the sea at sunrise."

“Simplicity is often where the truth hides. One boat, one sea, one sky — and yet, in that stillness, a whole world of emotion opens up."

About the Artist:

Originally from Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and now based in Lyon, France, Natalya Mougenot has spent over two decades refining her artistic voice. Her multicultural background and personal experience inform her bold, expressive works, which have found homes in private collections around the world.

Natalya's distinctive visual language blends Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Naïf, and Art Brut—resulting in paintings that are raw, instinctive, and emotionally resonant. Across her work, three values guide her: authenticity, sincerity, and honesty.

“Authenticity is everything," she says. “People can always feel when something is real—or when it's not. I want my work to be honest, to come from a place that's true."

In addition to painting, Natalya is also a passionate photographer. Her photographic work—also featured on this platform—mirrors her painterly sensibility: a poetic, observational approach that captures the quiet power of everyday life. For her, photography is both inspiration and a form of presence, often serving as visual sketches for future paintings or existing as standalone works.
