This striking black-and-white photograph captures a solitary figure posed against a massive boulder, set in a stark, shadowed landscape. The play of light and shadow accentuates the contours of the subject's body, creating a dramatic tension between human form and natural element. The positioning of the figure, with legs extended against the boulder, evokes both vulnerability and strength, embodying a dynamic interaction with the environment. The texture of the stone contrasts sharply with the smoothness of the skin, highlighting the unique interplay between organic and inorganic. This artwork challenges conventional perspectives, inviting contemplation on themes of resilience and harmony within the natural world.
Presentation
Mauricio Velez was born and lives in Colombia. He was trained at the European Institute of Design in Italy. Since then, he has worked on a large number of projects in Latin America, the United States and Spain, offering, through his personal prism - images which he seeks to refine the sensitivity and perception of the viewer towards religious icons, art, and the human body.
His work confronts the viewer with a sense of aesthetics that balances between the spiritually inspired and the disturbed.
