Description

Untitled, from the Labyrinth series. Limited edition of 3 +1AP. More Editions & Sizes: Small size: 39.4 x 27.5 in.  Edition of 5 +2AP. Unframed

Labyrinth continues the exploration started in the previous two series (Paranoia and Lullaby). Differently from the first two chapters, all the images of this series were created and post produced in 2020 and start showing the interest of the author to experiment different media in combination with photography to better express his altered perception of the world around him.

This evocative artwork captures a figure curled in a fetal position against a dark background, emphasizing themes of introspection and vulnerability. The subject's skin is intricately painted with earth-toned textures resembling moss or lichen, blending the human form with nature. This fusion invokes the concept of man’s intrinsic connection to the earth, suggesting a camouflage or seamless existence within the natural world. The muted color palette of greens and browns enhances the feeling of serenity and camouflage. The lighting subtly accentuates the contours and textures, creating a powerful visual contrast against the somber background. The overall composition is both haunting and tranquil, inviting viewers to ponder themes of identity, isolation, and nature’s embrace. This unique artistic approach challenges traditional portrayals of the human body, offering a fresh perspective on the intersection of humanity and the environment.

Presentation

The Italian artist Salvatore Arnone has lived and worked in Paris since 2014. After starting his career as an engineer, he turned to jewelry creation and worked for different brands around the world for nearly 10 years. . Despite this immersion in the creative field, at one point he felt the need to devote himself solely to photography and focus on his own vision.

In 2010 he was first published on Vanity Fair Italia and over the years his work has been featured in several magazines and exhibitions around the world. Starting at the age of 25, he began suffering from progressive hearing loss due to genetic cellular degeneration which required him to use hearing aids. The absence of meaning has profoundly affected his perception of the world around him and his social relationships, pushing him into a slow but constant process of self-isolation which is clearly visible in all his output.

His images mainly revolve around the search for a personal idea of beauty which often blends into sadness and silence, of harmony in chaos, of balance in imperfection which represent the leitmotif of the all of his work. The author is currently focusing on his personal work and is also experimenting with other media besides photography.
