Description
Untitled I, 2022 by Salvatore Arnone. From the Balance series. Photography and ink on paper. Image size: 50 in. H x 35 in. W. Edition of 3 + 1AP. Unframed.
With Balance the artist starts exploring more deeply the boundaries of the photographic media by mixing it with different techniques on a very traditional subject (classic sculptures). Pictures come from the collections of the Archeologic Museum of Naples and the Louvre in Paris. This intriguing artwork blends classical and contemporary elements, creating a visually compelling piece. It features a duplicated classical statue of a woman in a draped gown, layered to form a ghost-like, multi-dimensional effect. The overlapping figures suggest movement or the passage of time, adding depth and complexity. Adorned with strategically placed black circular shapes, likely representing celestial bodies or abstract elements, the composition is both symmetrical and balanced. A single, distinct blue circle disrupts the monochromatic palette, drawing the viewer's eye and adding a focal point of interest. This juxtaposition of classical sculpture with modern graphic elements challenges traditional perceptions of art, encouraging viewers to explore themes of duality, time, and the intersection of the past with the present. The artwork’s interplay of transparency and solid form engages the observer in a multi-layered visual experience.
Presentation
The Italian artist Salvatore Arnone has lived and worked in Paris since 2014. After starting his career as an engineer, he turned to jewelry creation and worked for different brands around the world for nearly 10 years. . Despite this immersion in the creative field, at one point he felt the need to devote himself solely to photography and focus on his own vision.
In 2010 he was first published on Vanity Fair Italia and over the years his work has been featured in several magazines and exhibitions around the world. Starting at the age of 25, he began suffering from progressive hearing loss due to genetic cellular degeneration which required him to use hearing aids. The absence of meaning has profoundly affected his perception of the world around him and his social relationships, pushing him into a slow but constant process of self-isolation which is clearly visible in all his output.
His images mainly revolve around the search for a personal idea of beauty which often blends into sadness and silence, of harmony in chaos, of balance in imperfection which represent the leitmotif of the all of his work. The author is currently focusing on his personal work and is also experimenting with other media besides photography.
