Description
A fluid line guides the gaze. This wood sculpture explores the notion of a living curve. The material bends and stretches with precision. An animal silhouette suddenly emerges from this organic trajectory. The animal seems suspended in a graceful movement.
The wood work evokes a sensory dimension here. The form lengthens to suggest the flow of seconds. The void becomes a space for breathing. The balance between the figure and the line emphasizes a search for simplicity.
The approach favors instinct and imagination. The material transforms into a thread connecting the real and the dream. This piece is part of a reflection on the everyday and transience. The dark patina of the wood accentuates the finesse of the line. The whole rests on a curved structure that tapers towards its end.
Presentation
Born in 1970, Gaël Rouxeville is the artist of the Living Curve. His work, disseminated in France and internationally, has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions, publications, and has been included in private and public collections (notably that of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia).
Drawing on expertise in industrial design and cabinetmaking, and committed to an eco-responsible approach, his creative process engages memory, the unconscious, and the imagination. For 30 years, he has explored the possibilities of the "Living Curve," a source of inspiration, an expressive language, and the guiding thread of his work. The numerous media, materials, and themes he explores are never an end in themselves, but rather a means of approaching and experiencing a universal consciousness.
His work results in a world of organic, “living" forms, figurative or not; forms that are simple in appearance and open to interpretation, engaging the viewer's memories and imagination. Gaël Rouxeville's art is less intellectual than sensual. It's an invitation to let go, to welcome, to stop searching... Like these curves that stretch and relax, it suddenly seems that time is elongating. The boundaries that appeared so clear become blurred, shifting... The mind then floats, as if levitating; a dance of space and time!
