Description
This stainless steel sculpture captures a moment of fusion. Two faces intertwine in a fluid movement. The metal seems to lose its rigidity to become liquid.
The work rests on a superposition of curved lines. These striations create a striking relief effect. They guide the eye towards the serene expressions of the figures.
The artist plays with light and silver reflections. The contrast between the areas of shadow and the metallic glints emphasizes the precision of the line. The industrial material is transformed here into a malleable fabric.
This piece explores the duality between the strength of metal and the softness of an embrace. The visual rendering evokes a wave or a current of air frozen in time.
The technical execution transforms the classic portrait into a study of movement. The polished steel brings a contemporary freshness to this composition.
Realized in 2019, this sculpture is distinguished by its lamellar structure. The whole rests on a solid base that supports the upward momentum of the forms.
Presentation
Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1959, raised in Southern France, Gil Bruvel started experimenting with art at age 9. His father, a cabinet maker acquainted Gil with wood sculpting and furniture design, Gil applied these skills to his functional art designs and sculptures years later. In 1974, Gil began his studies at an art restoration workshop in Chateaurenard, France, under M. Laurent de Montcassin, learning the techniques of Old and Modern Masters as well as art history of the 14th-20th century. Thereafter, he set up his studio in St. Remy de Provence until 1986 when he first made his way to the United States, making it his permanent residence in 1990.
