Graffiti

Der Graffiti-Tag nimmt innerhalb der Graffitikultur eine besondere Stellung ein als die unmittelbarste und grundlegendste Form urbaner Schrift.

Auf eine stilisierte Signatur reduziert, entstand er in den Straßen von New York Ende der 1960er Jahre, getragen von einer Logik visueller Identität, territorialer Präsenz und Anerkennung unter Gleichgesinnten. Weit davon entfernt, bloßes Gekritzel zu sein, stellt der Tag ein eigenständiges grafisches System dar, das strengen Regeln unterliegt: Schriftstil, Linienführung, Beherrschung der Geste und die Fähigkeit, seine Marke an unerwarteten Orten zu hinterlassen, bestimmen Status und Reputation des Autors innerhalb der Community.

Durch Rhythmus, Wiederholung und die Aneignung des öffentlichen Raums erforscht er Fragen von Präsenz und urbaner Sichtbarkeit und beeinflusst nachhaltig zahlreiche zeitgenössische Praktiken, von Street Art bis hin zur experimentellen Typografie. Figuren wie Taki 183, einer der Pioniere des New Yorker Taggings, sowie später Jean-Michel Basquiat, der diese grafische Energie in den Galeriekontext überführte, veranschaulichen die Entwicklung einer Praxis, die von der Straße in institutionelle Räume gelangte.
