Street Art

Die urbane Kunst hat sich heute als eine der dynamischsten Strömungen der zeitgenössischen Kunst etabliert. Sie entstand in den Straßen der großen Metropolen und eroberte später Galerien und Institutionen weltweit.

Ende der 1960er-Jahre in den Stadtvierteln von New York entstanden, getragen von der Hip-Hop-Kultur und den ersten Generationen von Writers, die Wände und U-Bahn-Züge gestalteten, entwickelte sie eine visuelle Sprache, die auf Tagging, Graffiti und Schablonentechnik basiert und strengen stilistischen und gruppeninternen Codes folgt.

Künstler wie Jean-Michel Basquiat und Keith Haring vollzogen in den 1980er-Jahren den Übergang von der Straße in den Kunstmarkt und ebneten den Weg für eine zunehmende Anerkennung, die im Phänomen von Banksy sowie in einer globalen Szene mit Ausdrucksformen wie Collage, Mosaik oder Trompe-l'œil kulminierte.

Weit davon entfernt, seine rebellische Energie zu verlieren, bewahrt die urbane Kunst ihre kritische Kraft und formale Vitalität, die sie weiterhin im zeitgenössischen Kunstfeld auszeichnen.
