Artwork location: France

This striking work depicts a sculpted human head that immediately strikes with its unique and bold character. The sculpture is distinguished by a marked and irregular texture, creating an impression of fragmentation and deconstruction. The artist uses a palette of metallic colors - shades of bronze, copper and silver - that give the piece an archaic yet contemporary feel. The details of this sculpted head are deeply expressive. The eyes, although abstract, exude a particular intensity and depth, suggesting an introspective gaze. The mouth and nose, too, are modeled with a precision that contrasts with the eroded and rough areas of the face. This duality between smooth surfaces and crumbled parts demonstrates impressive technical mastery and a provocative artistic vision. The sober black base highlights the head, making it spring from its base in an almost spectral manner. This juxtaposition accentuates the vulnerability and strength of the face. The material used for this sculpture is dense and robust, giving the work an imposing physical presence. This sculpture is not only a representation of the human appearance, but also a reflection on the human condition. It conveys an idea of the passage of time, resilience and transformation. With its innovative approach and powerful visual impact, this work asserts itself as a remarkable piece in the contemporary art landscape. The meticulous attention to detail coupled with a bold artistic vision makes this sculpture a true work of art to contemplate and meditate on.

Presentation

Philippe Buil, born in Marseille in 1964, moved to Saint-Étienne at the age of five. Introduced to art at an early age by his parents, he developed a passion for sculpture, which he combined with his experience in the metal industry. This unique blend of skills enables him to create metal works of remarkable lightness and delicacy, akin to lace.

Buil began by working in steel, before turning to bronze, which he masters in his own workshop. He also incorporates other materials such as aluminum, leather and precious woods, enriching his creations. His distinctive style, combining the hardness of metals with Greco-Roman forms, gives rise to what he calls "metallic haute-couture".

Since his first exhibitions in 2012, Philippe Buil has rapidly gained recognition, exhibiting his work in Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and the United States. In 2015, he introduced 24-carat gold leaf to his bronze sculptures, giving them a unique and prestigious sheen. Each of his pieces is unique, captivating collectors and art lovers the world over.

Philippe Buil continues to innovate and explore new techniques, always faithful to his commitment to do everything himself, from design to manufacture. His inexhaustible creativity and unique technical approach have made him a key artist on the contemporary scene, with a marked presence in galleries and international exhibitions.
