Description

Another attempt in pastel This pastel drawing 'Berg en Dal' – 19-12-23 – is an elaboration of a graphite drawing from May of this year. After Golden 13-12-23, I wanted to do something different. Perhaps painting landscapes in pastel is back on my mind for a while. My series under the same name sold out a long time ago. They are scattered all over the world: China, America, and Europe. Maybe you remember Dali and Picasso, two great artists who were also commercial talents. It is obvious that I love Berg en Dal as long as all the pastels are sold out. Why combine these two facts and try again? Cubism In 2014, when I made these pastels, I was just discovering and forging my cubist style in roundism. That is, concerning the female form. Later, I began to apply cubism to urban landscapes and landscapes as well. An example is the Schiedam series. Well, a preliminary work has already been done in this particular case. I really liked the concept, I decided that this would be the starting point for additions to the series. Approaching the determination of proportions and shapes was easy. Colors are not, obviously because of their relative nature. That is why I decided on a gamble: pink and violets, orange, blue, and green. So two cool warm colors and two deep colors. The trick is not to explode in color saturation too early. Softening them later is quite tedious. Soft pastels like Schmincke simply do not allow much second layer on a first. So, I walk on the edge of the precipice. I understood, so I found color spots in the background too prominent. The contour delineations were too harsh. I softened them by rubbing them together. Finally, I finished by imposing linear structures in the trees in the foreground. I certainly cannot improve it now, so I stopped. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
