Description

My compliments This graphite drawing 'Third Rock of the Sun' – 15-02-24' I wanted to create it for a long time. However, taken by certain oil projects, I had time to think about the execution. First, allow me to start by complimenting the model Nina and her photographer. You probably know her thanks to the series I did last year. If you like, you can visit her website. She had a new photo shoot published and I saw a photo that caught my attention. What beautiful light and thank you for allowing me to use it! The Heritage of Rembrandt and Vermeer Alive in the Netherlands it is impossible to escape the heritage of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Certainly not the inventors of chiaroscuro effects but they elevated lighting to another level. So no surprise that they are world-famous. Therefore, I was fascinated by the light too. That is what I dedicated almost all my work to. So there is a great model, great lighting and now a theme. To move away from the image seemed necessary. This always happens because simple copying is not my domain. It was the first time since 'Neo-Deco 18-10-23' that I used bristol paper again. I wanted to combine this with the slightly angular approach I used in 'Nina' – 12-09-23'. That way, I could use all the elements magnificently highlighted without needing to invent clever cubist shapes. The Whole World in Your Hands As always, while I was drawing, I had an idea. Instead of the motorized dollhouse she was holding in her hands, I thought of the mother earth. If you have reached this section of my artistic statement, you certainly care about environmental problems as well. Sometimes, you have to listen to the universe. And so, in the middle of the drawing, I listened to information about the rising sea level. As an artist, I can be powerful and highlight this subject for once. It is not the first time however and maybe you remember 'Yeast' – 18-09-19'. Here is the whole world in your hands, alias The Third Rock of the Sun. Protect it carefully! Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
