Description

Loving to make landscapes This graphite pencil drawing 'Clingendael – 16-03-23' followed shortly after my last one of Castle Wittenburg two days ago. Frankly, I love to redraw landscapes. I look forward to going out and seeing everything in bloom. Nice weather for a short and a pint on a terrace after sketching. Even if it's not as cold anymore. Spring hasn't arrived yet. April can be unpredictable in the Netherlands too. Whatever the case, the next six months will be great and I am looking forward to the sun that comes with them. Well, I cannot go much further in my current painting. I just have to wait for my usual model which is in the work, to model myself. Just a few checks and adjustments. A good time to practice my sketching techniques in between. All about the values This drawing is also done in two hours. I didn't want to overproduce it even if the representation of the leaves can be a challenge. Especially when they are piled one behind the other as in a picturesque landscape. Sometimes, one cannot distinguish where a group of leaves ends and where another at the back begins. In other words, the leaves of a tree in the foreground seem to melt into the background. Even more so when color is excluded and obviously this drawing is monochromatic. That is why I decided to soften the lines of the trees in the background with a little smudging. The three trees (in fact 6) serve as pushers to push the meadows behind them. Through the rhythm of light and tonal values in the grasses and rhododendrons, the attention remains there. I even managed to suggest the barbed wire fence from where with a few cows behind. Clingendael This drawing is not the first representation of Clingendael that I have made. It is quite close and I stay there often, especially in season. The last one dates from August 2022. This one represents the hill and the canal at the back of the estate, this one is near the entrance. There is a path leading to the Japanese garden. It is the one you see in front of the fence. Imagine walking there. 200 meters further to the left you will enter the Sterrenbos with the most beautiful rhododendron forest. When the sun passes through the trees in May, it almost seems to ignite the flowers. Celestial magenta! Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
