Description

Still glacial this graphite drawing 'Marlot' – 04-27-23 – follows my previous drawing of Park Arentsburgh. It is like this, walking one way and then the other. Going to one place and coming back. The incredible thing is that it is still very cold, even on St. John's Day. It was freezing in some areas in the Netherlands last night. Therefore, I have not yet sketched outdoors this year. Incredible, isn't it? In Spain, temperatures reached a stifling 39 degrees Celsius this week. Here, we are still facing a cold north wind. When I look at drawings from the past, I see that I sketched in nature as early as March. However, the weather forecasts are in favor of those who want to be outside in the coming weeks. Let's hope so! Along the Path, however, I still draw from my stock of reference photos. This time, Marlot was on the menu once again. My last one represented the old house there. I remembered taking some photos along the canal that ends in a kind of pond in front. This drawing is located a few hundred meters to the left, towards The Hague. During the times of the corona, I often lived there. It was a welcome deviation from my daily activities of drawing and painting, unable to teach in a group. I was attracted by the beautiful light of a sunny day in May. The line of trees in the background is actually the same as in an earlier drawing from 10 years ago. Overcoming difficulties I started this drawing as if I were used to it. Simply hatching the paper with diagonal lines and erasing the lightest parts. Seeing what follows from there. Soon, I understood that I had to change my plans and find a better scheme. The problem was that the line of trees in the background, being the Marlot Forest, did not show much contrast. The leaves in the foreground did not contrast as much with the trees in the background. Where everything boils down is that I had to hatch suggestions of leaves in the trees in the foreground. Consequently, the typical hatching disappeared in large part. Sometimes, that is what I need. Working in monochrome tones sometimes makes it difficult to create enough contrast in different sections. I hope that will be enough to distinguish all the intended objects. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
