Description
A kind of study This graphite drawing 'Berg en Dal' – 25-10-23 – brings me back on the right track. Recently, I was planning to do more urban landscapes, tree landscapes, and landscapes. Throughout my artistic career, I consider, with my cubist female forms, that they are the cement of my art. Certainly, from time to time, a larger painting appears. It is the grand narrative that I must tell from time to time. This small drawing in question that I finished today is by definition a kind of study. I like to experiment with slight changes in style to see if I can get by. Boterberg You see, I drew a last May, almost the same place. In Berg en Dal, Gelderland, Netherlands, it is. I was curious to know if I could find the same quality. I also loved and still love the place that is dearest to my heart. The same lines of trees and the rolling panorama, however, rendered slightly differently. We are talking about Boterberg, part of Beek-Ubbergen. Higher up, it could be Berg en Dal. I am not sure. As mentioned before, the Dutch hills seem ridiculous to outsiders. However, any elevation in the Netherlands is enough to spend time there. In addition to that, I do not need an extensive forest like Big Sur, California. I went there once and it seemed like I could get lost there forever. The hills beyond Nijmegen offer just the right amount of artistic motifs. Impressionism or Cubism? As for the style, I must admit that I have not found a cubist quality. Although there are some cubist or Rondist elements, I missed some large trees. In the other drawing, there were striking large trees on the right. In one way or another, I felt that a more abstract cubist approach would not work in this one. I was afraid the landscape would become a bit too amorphous otherwise. The work leans more towards impressionism than towards cubism. What do you think? Finally, and not the last, the shadow in the lower left corner, that is me. I remember feeling like one of those small figures taken from a painting by Caspar David Friedrich. Presentation
Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.
In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.
While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
