Description
Den Haag – 09-02-24 My first of this year This graphite pencil drawing “Den Haag – 09-02-24" is mine this year. The previous one I made was for Christmas. In the meantime, I finished 4 oil paintings and I got into the swing of things. However, after the canvas, I also felt the need to paint on wooden panels again. They are in the process of being layered with gesso. It is time to make a drawing and why not of good old Den Haag, my residence. You can browse my series on this city if you wish. Over the years, I have done many. The Saint-James church in the center, it stands: the Great Church or Saint-James church. I often pass through it in the city and especially during the summer, it creates a spectacular vision. This is due to the shadows and the segments of the roof that shine under the sunlight. This phenomenon always makes me stop for a second and I sometimes take a few photos. To capture the beauty of all this and promise myself to use it for a work of art one day. It is such a day. Not the first time, not the first time I have drawn this particular church. In 2015, I made a watercolor. This time, the angle was steeper. The effect of the light on the roof tiles and the zigzag pattern reminded me of the appearance of a serrated knife. I first thought of a rather cubist or abstract approach but I quickly realized that it was not quite suitable. You see, the walls are not particularly attractive, rather flat. So no exciting patterns like in my drawing of Saint-Bavo last year. Instead, I kept it quite simple, just an impressionistic view and of course an elephant. Not the first time this has appeared. Presentation
Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.
In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.
While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
