Description
Willow Trees This graphite drawing "Notenboompark - 06-04-23" follows my sketch of lapereaux in Clingendael from last week. Suddenly, I wanted to redraw one of Voorburg, the city where I teach art. In fact, The Hague borders Voorburg, so a stranger would not notice the passage. There is this strip of vegetation extending from The Hague to the estate "Vreugd en Rust". Towards the end, there is this cozy "Noteboompark", adjacent to the Juliana-Bernhard Park. It is the one I pass on my way to Brugman. The Haaglanden region (the largest La Haye) is well-known for its lush parks. You find many ponds, weeping willows, and what you don't have. This one is no exception and I liked to represent these willows at the edge of Spring. It is very cold however, but the sun seems to almost frighten the icy north wind. Little contrast Whereas the previous drawing was full of strong tonal variations, this one is different. Before entering into the details, allow me to say that I took a photo of the landscape. The photo was taken from a bridge where I could not draw. Although the view was superb, the lighting was not. So I took another photograph one day later. Finally, it was sunny again and it illuminated the trees magnificently. That being said, this turned out to be an arduous task. The fine leaves did not contrast much with the blue sky. Just enough to make a difference so that I could show the light on top of them. On the other hand, I obtained two reference photos that showed the best of both worlds. The viewpoint was a little different however, but that did not bother me. I could use the first photo and simply use the other to interpret the lighting. Reflections in the water The wonderful part was the reflections in the water. I love that as I have stated dozens of times before. The funny thing is that the reflections give you both a recognition of the trees and the water as themselves. What do you say to a double shot? I only had to make mirrors to get a maximum effect. The bridge in the background is the bridge I cross almost every day. I look forward to taking my folding camping chair and drawing outside when it is warmer. It is still 9 degrees Celsius cold. Brrr! Presentation
Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.
In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.
While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
