Artwork location: France

In "Breath and Path," French artist Natalya Mougenot presents a striking meditation on womanhood, personal journey, and the inner architecture of the self. Through an abstract, faceless female figure rendered with bold, emotive brushstrokes, the painting transcends individual identity to speak to a universal human experience—particularly the silent strength and complexity of being a woman.

At the heart of Mougenot's work lie her unwavering core values: authenticity, sincerity, and honesty. These principles are not just artistic intentions; they are deeply embedded in her visual language. "Breath and Path" is not a polished or idealized portrayal—it is raw, vulnerable, and unfiltered, capturing the essence of emotion without artifice. Every stroke speaks directly from the artist's truth, making the work not just an image, but a felt experience.

The facelessness of the figure is a deliberate and profound choice. It resists conventional definitions of beauty or identity and invites viewers to project their own narratives. This anonymity transforms the woman into a symbol—of perseverance, transformation, and quiet determination. In this way, the painting becomes a mirror for every viewer, particularly women, reflecting the often invisible yet deeply personal paths they walk.

Mougenot's stylistic signature is a unique fusion of abstract expressionism—with its intensity and gestural freedom—and the raw immediacy of art brut and the childlike purity of art naïve. This blend creates a visceral impact: instinctive, emotional, and deeply human. Her lines are fluid, almost breathing; her forms abstract yet intimately expressive. The palette—rich browns, creams, and deep blues contrasted against a vivid yellow background—establishes a tension between inner grounding and outward illumination. Yellow, often associated with vitality and enlightenment, becomes a metaphor for hope and direction, even in uncertainty.

The title "Breath and Path" encapsulates this dynamic. “Breath" implies life, presence, and endurance—the quiet pulse that carries us through. “Path" signifies the choices, doubts, and progressions we make, often unseen by others. For Mougenot, the path is rarely straight or easy, particularly for women navigating personal and societal expectations. Yet, as the painting asserts, movement forward—however abstract, however faceless—is still a declaration of self.

In "Breath and Path", Natalya Mougenot doesn't simply paint a woman—she paints womanhood itself: fluid, evolving, vulnerable, yet powerful. Through her sincere and honest approach, she opens a space for reflection, empathy, and shared experience. This work is not just to be viewed—it is to be felt, walked through, and breathed in.

This piece was  painted with professional-grade acrylics on heavyweight, acid-free paper. A final layer of protective varnish enhances both its tactile quality and visual intensity. The work is sold unframed, giving collectors the flexibility to choose a frame that suits their space. As the painting conforms to standard sizes, framing is simple and accessible.

To inspire presentation, images of the piece framed in various interior settings are included.

The painting is shipped flat (not rolled) in a secure box from France and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, guaranteeing its provenance.

Presentation

Natalya is a contemporary  french artist living in Lyon.

She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.

She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.

She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.

In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism,  which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.

As an artist and as a woman  she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion,  is the pillar for the inner adult.

Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.

She works  rapidly  and is constantly sensitive  to the details.

Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
