Description
Weightless Joy was born one morning as I watched curtains lift softly in the breeze, illuminated by pale daylight. There was something almost magical in that quiet motion — as if the air itself were sketching shapes out of light, blurring the line between gravity and grace.
The flowing forms in the painting echo that moment: the subtle way air enters a room, the way it moves around us without asking for attention. Soft tones of gold, white, and gray-black shadow intertwine, capturing how energy can feel both powerful and tender at the same time. The textured surface holds shifting reflections, reminding me that emotions often rise from the simplest things, pass through us, change form, and leave behind a gentle resonance.
For me, this piece speaks of freedom — not as escape, but as a state of openness, a willingness to let life move through us with trust. It reflects that quiet, luminous kind of joy that lives beneath the surface, waiting to rise when we finally pause long enough to feel it.
Technique: Acrylic and sand on Yupo paper
Offered framed with a black fiberboard frame and white mount
Presentation
Francesca Borgo (b. 1970) is an Italian abstract painter whose practice investigates liminal thresholds — the spaces between erosion and emergence, stillness and movement, self and other. Working with layered combinations of acrylic, sand, and mineral pigments, she creates atmospheric surfaces that evoke glaciers, mist, sedimented terrains, and states of emotional transition.
Her work is informed by a background in cognitive neuroscience and psychology, grounding her visual language in an exploration of perception, authenticity, and the subtle ways we grow and open ourselves to others while remaining rooted in who we are. Her paintings function as meditative thresholds, inviting viewers into a slower encounter with presence.
Borgo has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom, the United States, and recently Asia. Her work was shown at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition (London, 2022), and she has presented multiple solo booths at The Other Art Fair (Brooklyn, Los Angeles, London, Dallas). Additional presentations include the Affordable Art Fair New York, and the Incheon Art Show in South Korea.
Her works are held in private collections across Europe, North America, and Asia. She lives and works in Treviso, Italy.
