Description
A striking fusion of tradition and modernity. This artwork captures a regal figure draped in a vivid red kimono. The composition balances classical elegance with raw energy. Bold brushstrokes scatter across the canvas like spontaneous ink splashes.
The central subject commands attention through a serene yet piercing gaze. Intricate patterns adorn the silk fabric. Each fold of the garment creates a rhythmic play of light and shadow. In the background, ghostly calligraphic characters drift through a textured golden haze. These symbols evoke a sense of ancestral memory and timelessness.
The palette vibrates with high-contrast reds and deep blacks. Soft blue accents offer a cooling counterpoint to the warmth of the gold leaf effects. The artist employs a layered technique to build depth. This approach merges the precision of a portrait with the freedom of abstract expressionism. The result is a powerful dialogue between the stillness of the muse and the chaos of the surroundings. Every mark suggests a bridge between historical heritage and a contemporary urban spirit. The gaze remains fixed, anchored by the delicate ornaments of the hairstyle.

Born 1949 in France
Since 1992 in 'The Vietnam Years', Deplante had regular solo exhibitions in Ho Chi Minh City with his “Vietnam Travel Journals" and in France at Bonlieu Scene National (Annecey) and the House of Indochina (Paris), Artpreciation (Hongkong), Eagle's Eye Art Gallery, and Artfolio (Singapore).
From a very young age, Deplante has been attracted to and inspired by Asia. From 1971 to 1974, Deplante worked as a director at an animated movie company with his wife, Tara. Between 1986-1987 they were in charge of decorating the interior of the First Himalayan Temple in Europe, the Kagyu-Ling (France). Since 1987, they were in charge of the production of many monumental settings,
installations and shows internationally. In 1993, Deplante opened his own Art Gallery with his wife in Ho Chi Minh City, which was closed in December 2019 when they decided to retire in France. In 2000 they opened a second gallery in Siem Reap (Cambodia – Angkor). Their artworks can be found in many private collections around the world. They currently live in France and collaborate with Tobian Art Gallery.
