Description

A serene presence emerges from a rich, textured backdrop. The female figure embodies a quiet grace. She leans forward in a moment of deep contemplation. A single lotus flower rises beside her, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening. The oil application creates a weathered, parchment-like effect. Overlapping calligraphic elements and crimson seals evoke ancient Asian manuscripts.
The color palette glows with warm ochres and vibrant reds. These tones harmonize to create a timeless atmosphere. The soft contours of the body contrast with the fragmented patterns of the background. This figurative approach blends modern sensitivity with deep traditional roots. The composition balances void and density through masterful layering. Every brushstroke reflects a lifelong fascination with Eastern philosophy. The gaze remains internalized, inviting the viewer into a meditative state. The artwork culminates in the detailed patterns of the lower garment, where intricate motifs blend into the crimson landscape.

Presentation

Born 1949 in France

Since 1992 in 'The Vietnam Years', Deplante had regular solo exhibitions in Ho Chi Minh City with his “Vietnam Travel Journals" and in France at Bonlieu Scene National (Annecey) and the House of Indochina (Paris), Artpreciation (Hongkong), Eagle's Eye Art Gallery, and Artfolio (Singapore).

From a very young age, Deplante has been attracted to and inspired by Asia. From 1971 to 1974, Deplante worked as a director at an animated movie company with his wife, Tara. Between 1986-1987 they were in charge of decorating the interior of the First Himalayan Temple in Europe, the Kagyu-Ling (France). Since 1987, they were in charge of the production of many monumental settings,
installations and shows internationally. In 1993, Deplante opened his own Art Gallery with his wife in Ho Chi Minh City, which was closed in December 2019 when they decided to retire in France. In 2000 they opened a second gallery in Siem Reap (Cambodia – Angkor). Their artworks can be found in many private collections around the world. They currently live in France and collaborate with Tobian Art Gallery.
