Peony duet, 2026

Natalya Mougenot   Best sellers

“Peony Duet" is an original contemporary floral oil painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot, created on stretched canvas and measuring 46 × 33 × 2 cm (18.11 × 12.99 × 0.79 in).

Two exuberant peonies rise from simple glass vessels, their richly layered petals unfolding in vivid reds, corals and pinks against a luminous green environment. Rather than pursuing botanical precision, Mougenot transforms the flowers into an expressive study of colour, vitality and presence. The visible brushwork, energetic contours and overlapping passages of colour give the painting a sense of movement, as though the flowers are still opening before the viewer.

The transparent glass jars introduce a contrasting element of fragility and structure. Their dark blue-green outlines anchor the composition while allowing the stems, water and reflected colours to remain visible within them. This interplay between transparency and solidity, delicacy and strength gives the still life a contemporary character.

With its saturated colours and bold gestural surface, “Peony Duet" can bring an immediate sense of warmth and energy to an interior, particularly when displayed in a space where the painting can act as a vibrant focal point.
