Description
Love can become a flame when what it cherishes is threatened.
In Fury Born From Love, Indonesian artist Kang Samar explores the meeting of devotion, protective instinct and emotional intensity. A red-faced figure commands attention amid luminous yellows, greens and blues. Elaborate ornament and flowing painted gestures give the scene a restless, theatrical rhythm.
The work belongs to Samar's Wayang Kulit series, inspired by the visual storytelling of Indonesian shadow puppetry. Its expressive characters become a means of exploring the forces within us: affection, courage, vulnerability and the choices made under pressure.
The artist describes this painting as a protective fire arising from deep love. That idea gives the composition its emotional complexity. Strength and pain exist together, inviting viewers to consider what they defend—and what that defence asks of them.
Born in Surabaya in 1976, Kang Samar has developed his creative practice through mural painting, sculptural decoration, batik and textile design. These experiences inform his attention to ornament, surface and the expressive potential of colour.

Presentation
Kang Samar is an Indonesian painter born in 1976 in Surabaya, East Java. Inspired by wayang kulit, the traditional shadow theatre, he creates colourful paintings in which characters become expressions of love, courage, loyalty and inner conflict.
His figures inhabit intricate compositions filled with flowing lines, expressive faces and ornamental details. Brilliant yellows meet deep greens and luminous blues, while red accents bring intensity to the unfolding scene. The eye moves from one character to another, discovering relationships within a surface rich in movement.
At the heart of his practice is the belief that traditional stories can illuminate contemporary experience. His paintings explore the choices we make, the bonds we preserve and the tension between what we inherit and what we become. Works such as Destiny Matrix and Kindred Spirit invite viewers to find their own emotional connections within these symbolic encounters.
Samar brings more than fifteen years of experience in creative arts and craftsmanship to his painting. His activities have included murals in Central Java, garden reliefs and sculptures, batik production in Bali, and clothing design and screen printing. This varied background gives his work a sustained attention to handmade detail and the rhythm of patterned surfaces.
Presented by Abstract Art Gallery, Riga, Kang Samar offers a personal interpretation of Indonesian theatrical imagery, creating paintings that reward both immediate visual discovery and closer contemplation.
