Description
This canvas is executed in pastel, muted tones and has a characteristic relief-like texture: strokes of thick paint create a sense of the volume and roughness of old city stone.
Before us is an architectural cityscape of Venice. The composition is formed by old stone buildings with towers, domes and decorative pediments. The central part stands out with lighter, almost white structures rich in sculptural detail. On the right is a building of a warmer, reddish tone, which adds a color accent to the composition.
The atmosphere of the painting is quiet and a little misty: the sky is veiled in a grayish haze, which makes the city's contours seem soft and blurred. The lower part depicts the lagoon: the reflections and the movement of the brush create a sense of light ripples.
Overall, the work conveys calm, ancient grandeur and a melancholic mood, as if the city were immersed in morning mist or in the quiet after rain.
