In this striking photograph, Natalya sought to capture the quiet anticipation of an early morning by the sea — a moment when sun beds sit untouched, lined up in calm expectation, waiting to host the warmth and presence of beachgoers as the day unfolds. The scene evokes a sense of stillness and suspended time, inviting the viewer to reflect on the peaceful, in-between moments that often go unnoticed. It's not just a picture of a beach; it's a gentle meditation on the promise of the day ahead — the hush before the joy, the calm before the crowd.

The photograph was taken in June 2025 in Canet-en-Roussillon, a sun-soaked coastal town in southern France. Known for its Mediterranean light, natural beauty, and harmonious blend of seaside vibrance and rural serenity, the region offers an ideal setting for capturing the quiet elegance of everyday life.

This image forms part of Natalya Mougenot's ongoing series The Beauty of Simple, which focuses on ordinary, often-overlooked scenes imbued with emotional resonance through their stillness and understated presence.

A painter by training, Mougenot brings a poetic and intuitive eye to her photography. Her work is marked by subtlety, reflection, and a deep sense of connection to the moment.

Artist Biography:

Natalya Mougenot is a painter whose artistic vision naturally extends into photography. Her work reflects a profound appreciation for simplicity, authenticity, and the quiet beauty woven into daily life.

Born in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, Natalya moved to France in 2003 and is currently based in Lyon. Her surroundings — along with her travels — inspire her to capture fleeting, unguarded moments that speak quietly yet powerfully.

Natalya's journey into photography began at age 11 with her first Polaroid camera. Though not formally trained in the medium, she brings a deeply intuitive approach to image-making. Rather than aiming to transform or dramatize the world through her lens, she seeks to honor it as it is — observing, feeling, and framing life with sincerity and care.

Before turning her full attention to painting in 2017, Natalya had already been cultivating her photographic practice for years. This visual sensitivity continues to inform her paintings, and many of her photographs serve as emotional sketches — some evolving into artworks, others standing alone as quiet records of presence and perception.

She describes her photography practice in her own words:

“I seek to capture the honest, unguarded moments of life — simple, timeless fragments that reveal the poetry in everyday existence. My photography, like my painting, embraces presence and authenticity, creating quiet visual stories that invite reflection and feeling."
