Description
Photographed on the streets of Berlin, Germany, “Swagger” is amongst Mario Tarantino’s early works. This contemporary black and white photograph bridges portraiture, street and fashion photography in a single frame charged with glamour.
An oversized portrait covers an outdoor wall, the woman’s piercing gaze and intricate tattoos charged with intensity and confidence. A passerby walks in front, his boldly patterned outfit a visual echo of the woman’s tattoos. Mario’s composition connects the two figures in a moment of instinctive observation, uniting the static and the fleeting, the permanent and the passing, in a single frame.
The monochromatic tonality pulls everything together, the energy, the glamour, the urban cool, an image that wears its title with total conviction.
From Hahnemühle Photo Rag to archival pigment inks, Mario’s commitment to premium materials at every stage of creation ensures a museum quality giclée print of great longevity.
Mario gives each artwork his personal attention before it leaves the studio, naming, numbering and hand-signing each piece. Part of a small edition of only 10, each is accompanied by a signed and stamped certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
