Description
"Phoenix" is part of Mario Tarantino's "Archstract" series, in which everyday architectural structures are transformed and abstracted through his ability to look beyond the physical and into the symbolic. Photographers have always found their most powerful subjects close to home. "Phoenix" is testament to that truth. Shot on a bridge within walking distance of where Mario lives in Gran Canaria, it became the first of his works to be recognised with an award, and has since found its way into private collections worldwide.
The suspension bridge's towering pylons rise into the frame, unfolding like outstretched wings soaring toward a radiant horizon. The bridge transcends its everyday function and becomes something altogether more powerful. The Phoenix, a symbol of rebirth, of rising above and soaring over the challenges we may face.
Mario's black and white architectural photography, underpinned by an innate understanding of light, evokes the ethereal, the artwork charged with a sense of rising energy.
This fine art photograph is giclée printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper. Its smooth matte finish and remarkable pictorial depth reproduces deep blacks and bright whites with exceptional clarity, making it the artist's material of choice. The combination of premium art papers and leading technology results in a museum quality artwork offering exceptional longevity.
Mario personally inspects each print before naming, numbering and hand-signing it. Part of an edition of just 10, it is accompanied by a signed and stamped certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
