Description
Part of Mario Tarantino's award-winning "A Future Past" series, "Hyperbola" was created as dusk drew in, its fading light catching the raw concrete monolithic forms of Southern Africa's Taal Monument, a brutalist era structure. The photographic composition is minimal, form, line and negative space from which the surreal surfaces.
The silhouetted figure of Mario's father moves across the courtyard towards the arched entrance, binding the personal to the monumental, the image a meeting point between father and son. His presence carries a narrative and an intrigue that lingers within an atmosphere charged and deliberate, one shaped by the sculptural raw concrete forms, sheer scale, the figure of a father and the ethereal light of dusk.
This contemporary black and white photograph is giclée printed using archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper, its smooth matte surface holding the depth of the muted sky, the textures and contrasts of the image with exceptional definition. Mario works with a master printer, each stage of the process carried out with the utmost care and attention, resulting in a gallery grade fine art print of remarkable permanence.
Selected for Artsper's Futurist Collection and held in both private and corporate collections, this award-winning piece is part of a limited edition of 10 fine art prints. Each one is thoroughly inspected by Mario before being named, numbered and hand-signed. The edition is completed by a stamped and signed certificate of authenticity, a permanent record of its origin.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
