Description
Interlocking forms recur across the facade of the EYE Filmmuseum, Amsterdam, in a pattern Mario Tarantino uses as his frame. A cyclist crosses in front of it, set against the sheer scale of the wall behind her. 'Lines' turns the wall into a stage and the passerby into its unscripted subject.
Mario treats negative space as structure, a minimalist instinct that builds atmosphere and isolates his subject within the vastness of the scene. Panning to follow the cyclist, he blurs her motion into pale streaks, resolving the entire scene, from static architecture to fluid movement, into a continuous line.
Printed in black and white on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid- and lignin-free cotton paper, the image's contrast gains a rich, tactile presence. The fine-art surface holds the geometry of the building in stark clarity while preserving the fluid blur of the cyclist. Produced in collaboration with a master printer using archival pigment inks, this giclée print translates the photograph's full dynamic range directly to paper, ensuring a gallery-quality artwork.
Selected for Artsper's “Op Art” collection and released in a strictly limited edition of 10 fine art prints. Each work is personally inspected, hand-titled, numbered, and signed by Mario Tarantino. The artwork is accompanied by a stamped Certificate of Authenticity.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
