Description
Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825)
He was a royalist until 1789, a revolutionary from 1789 until the fall of Robespierre, imprisoned, and then an active member of Napoleon Bonaparte's fan club. He ended up exiled in Brussels during the Restoration without having had the time to become a royalist again.
2023 (1814) – Oil on canvas. A larger version is in the Louvre.
The Spartans won a stage during the first Tour of Greece. It was an incredible popular event. Only the Persians were able to rival them. Moreover, they would regain the lead in the following stage.
Presentation
The digital brush and the bold pixel are Olivier Dupont Delestraint's tools for transforming the paintings he photographs during his travels. He then writes the true story of fake paintings created, in their time, by real artists. He teases our fetishistic relationship with masterpieces, challenges the power of the label; he plays on a very contemporary question: what constitutes authority?
