Elpis, 2017

Sadie Weis

This work references Elpis, the Greek Goddess of hope, who was released when Pandora opened up the box, releasing all good and evil into the world.
'Elpis' is a 'Polymonotpye', which is a unique printing process developed by the artist which combines elements of both painting and silkscreen.

This artwork is an abstract composition that skillfully combines vibrant colors and fluid forms to evoke the ethereal essence of a flame or blooming flower. The color palette is a captivating blend of purples, pinks, yellows, and reds, seamlessly transitioning into one another, creating a sense of movement and depth. The central form appears to float, anchored by a shadowy base, adding an intriguing dimension. The translucent layers give a sense of fragility and lightness, while the bold use of color provides impact and energy. The piece’s dynamic structure invites viewers to interpret its essence, whether as a representation of nature's beauty or an exploration of ephemeral phenomena. Its airy and delicate brushwork highlights the artist's mastery in balancing chaos with harmony, capturing an otherworldly presence that captivates and provokes thought. This artwork offers a vivid exploration of color and form, merging chaos with subtle elegance.
