Franck Doat is an eclectic French artist, painter, sculptor, but especially a photographer. Photography for which he now dedicates a large part of his work. Through this medium, it plays with contrasts, shapes, volumes.

In this combination of sometimes opposite elements, the illusion is total to better confront or denounce the different realities of a single world. He named his photographic work "otherwise" or "Surrealist World". During his travels, he takes many shots. It thus obtains a large data bank which it classifies by topic, by genre etc... Then come his work of association.

At first it started with the distortion of the images. Then he moved on to another source of inspiration in which he associates borrowed elements with nature, architecture, and the urban world. He likes contrasts and oppositions. He wants to show the reality of our time between the world of the rich and that of poverty. This is the case for his new collection "My Little Planets". Some of his photographs are sometimes borrowed from spirituality, others close to nature and the urban world, or very surreal. He loves everything that touches on places, landscapes, the environment and heritage. It is primarily a work of observation and creation. He draws little from the news or sometimes unwittingly, or at the very bottom of him.

But Franck Doat does not operate by superimposition, as for cut papers: He literally merges the universes. The result is striking, all the more striking as the photographic work itself, very often in black and white, is of a perfect mastery. Some may marvel at the freedoms that Franck Doat has taken by playing with the data of the real. Yet the quality of his work (inventiveness, formal concern and technical finiteness), makes him to be forgiven for his transgression. This is all the more so as a total result of an unprecedented development of his work. Doat's inventiveness is of course reminiscent of the pranks that, from Man Ray to Magritte, the Surrealists had previously authorized themselves. "Magical Interventions" would not have been better suited to his creative work: the poet Henri Michaux is thought to be a surrealist yet! – and the powers of action he placed under his sign...

His photographic works are mainly made on the basis of digital processes which are a new form of expression lasting and quasi-exclusive. He considers digital as a technique in the service of creation.

Thus, the mastery of this technique is indispensable to his creations.

From now on, digital becomes the artist's palette and allows him to free himself from the technique to concentrate only on ideas. It is, from this point of view, globally in tune with contemporary art.

Born in Mont de Marsan in Les Landes in 1972, Franck Doat has exercised his art between Monaco and Nice for 20 years. A promising artist and appreciated by many art collectors, he has been noticed at various exhibitions and demonstrations in Paris, London, Milan, Mérida, Mexico, Nice and Monaco. He has participated in numerous charitable sales in the Principality of Monaco and in London. His works appreciated by enlightened buyers sold at auction by Artcurial Monaco and Sotheby's show that Franck Doat is an artist now recognized by the greatest number.

This subjective look at the world around us. This is what Franck Doat proposes, through his series of photographs. These "pieces elsewhere" mix, and offer the vision of a singular world.

The artist photographer finds his inspirations directly in the places he crosses. Franck Doat's original photographic universe challenges and drags into a soft, surreal dimension, wedged between an imaginary past and a possible future, towards another truth.

"Self-taught, he avoids norms, so he is free to err, to explore new subjects with his heart".

Franck Doat

France Born in: 1972 Emergent Artist

Franck Doat is a self-taught photographer, who is known for his surrealistic images and urban landscapes in black and white.

He is mostly known for his "Villes autrement" series, unique photos of Paris, Monaco and Beirut. In his photos, Franck Doat doesn't hesitate to distort, lure the spectator, overlay, multiply or rebuild reality. For example, in one of his photos, he associated the Empire State Building in New York with a poor district in Beirut.

His works were mainly displayed during the «Eco Art Parade» in 2009 and Galerie Carré d'or in 2013, both in Monaco, not to mention the Dark Room in Nice in 2015.
